Oh god, oh god - what's going on there? Real estate agent Jules Cobb (Courtney Cox) stands in front of the mirror and looks at her "problem areas": upper arms, stomach, legs. "That looks like a pot-bellied pig!" Any normal Joe TV viewer beyond the age of 20 would probably be happy about this fat-free body, but in the new series "Cougar Town" Courtney Cox has to pretend that the signs of aging are omnipresent. Eventually, she plays a 40-year-old who has been divorced for five months from her attractive, but somewhat stupid husband Bobby and now goes out to catch men - knowing that the selection at her age is getting smaller.

With her friend Laurie (Busy Philipps) she moves through the clubs - and actually takes a young gentleman with her tidy suburban home. It just stupid that son Travis (David Byrne) caught the two in the act and finds the behavior of his mother superficial. He wants nothing more than "a normal mum" - but Jules behaves more like a college student in the hormonal frenzy.

"Cougar Town": Not really new, but still nice

In September 2009, "Cougar Town" started in the USA - and has since been celebrated as the expression of a new way of life. Attractive women over 40 who fall in love with younger men are in vogue: Demi Moore, Madonna or Kylie Minogue make it happen. By the way, "cougar" is the English term for cougar or silver lion - a winking nickname for slightly gray-haired ladies who have caught a younger man.

However, the concept of "Cougar Town" is not really new: we have been used to the personalities since the girls' round of "Sex and the City", we know the deceptive suburban idyll from "Desperate Housewives". Even Courtney Cox is remembered from her time as Monica on Friends. But it's fun to watch the quick-witted Jules on her way back to dating. Whether 40 is really the new 20, we dare to doubt. But that television finally shows that life at 40 is far from over - that's good news.

"Cougar Town" is always on Sundays at 10:15 pm on Sat1. Further information about the series can be found here.
