Cinema Tip: Absurdistan

In a time between yesterday and today, somewhere in nowhere, possibly between Europe and Asia, a village clings to the hills of a forgotten province. The women there are beautiful and industrious, the men lazy and lazy. But one day, as the only water pipe runs dry, the village awakes from its sleepy everyday life. The women are fed up with their husbands' laziness, wanting them to repair the well. But the quitters are not that easy to convince. Rather, they accept that the unwashed shirts stink to the sky, that the fish in the aquarium must dry up and they need to stir their shaving foam with spit, as they would voluntarily move a finger to repair the water pipe. This goes on for a long, long time, until, yes, until the women pull an ace out of their sleeves and threaten: no sex without water. Welcome to Absurdistan!

Cinema Tip: Absurdistan

Sex boycott for the best intercourse

The women in Absurdistan take the matter seriously, splitting the village by brush stroke in half, capping the phone line as their spouses seek refuge in telephone sex orgies. Even when armed, they do not shy away when the men with the rickety bus want to leave the village.

And just in this time, it had the stars predestined, should fall for Aya (Kristyna Malérová) and Temelko (Maximilian Mauff), since time immemorial for each other, the first night of love. They had been waiting for four years. But an irrefutable rule says that they have to take a bath together before. Just ask yourself how, without water. In order not to miss the auspicious star constellation for the first night together, Temelko does everything in his power to bring the fountain back to life.

Surreal and fairytale

Director Veit Helmer ties in with "Absurdistan" to the surreal, fairy-tale style of "Tuvalu". It's a style you like, you want to get involved in. Magical, funny, beautiful - but also getting used to. "Absurdistan" is a comedy, but not one that lets you laugh out loud, a romance, but not one that stirs with emotion. Too absurd is the story, too ludicrous the characters. The casting of his characters is Helmer a sanctuary. He has sent casting directors and auditioned 2,400 actors across 28 countries - from Europe to America, from Cuba to Iran. At the end of the filming came actors from 16 different countries. A handpicked cast of actors who seem like they've been thrown together in the deepest Caucasian province. Only Maximilian Mauff and Kristyna Malérová stand out like two stars in the Thousand and One Nights. They outshine everything. However, their comrades are more amusing to look at.

Conclusion

If you get involved with the incomparable style of Veit Helmers, you should spend some fun hours with "Absurdistan".
