Bela B: "I am not a man who looks back wistfully"

While most of the artists after a two-year band tour first put on the lazy skin, crashes Bela B. on his solo project. With the usual wit, unusual feeling and new chanson influence, the drummer and singer of the doctors creates radio-friendly punk rock. Do not worry, the new album "code b"does not wash with softener, it continues where he left off with his first album" Bingo "and promises entertaining sounds not only for his fans, but we wanted to know where the melancholy comes from and invited Bela B for an interview. A conversation about the older and the good old punk rock.

"Every song is a gem"

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: In October, your new solo album "code B" will be released. Which of the 14 songs is your absolute hit?

Bela B: I do not know. They are all my babies. We went to the studio with 19 songs. We recorded 17 songs and 14 are now on the album. The others will definitely end up as B-sides. Except for the song "Paris": It's great, but unfortunately I do not know what exactly happens with it.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: Do you love your own music?

Bela B: I'm happy about my new record. It is still fresh and I like to hear it at the moment. After a tour, with rehearsals and performances, that is of course completely different. Then you do not listen to his own record anymore. But every song is a gem.

A choir of sex and adventure-hungry!

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: The song "onenightstand" sounds different than the other tracks on the new album. What was your inspiration?

Bela B: At "onenightstand" a little French chanson and a bit of country sounds. It builds on blues harmonies. To finish the song, I made a kind of jam session with Lula, a singer I trust very much. We played drums with dishwashing brushes. They have even been recorded later. It is an obscure piece. I already experimented on the album "Bingo" with different music influences and styles, for example from the 60s. Privately, I hear very different music genre - admittedly, no reggae and not much jazz. But of course country and chanson, more in the Las Vegas style, and that all influenced me when writing.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: In the lyrics of "onenightstand" you almost mantra the phrase "Do not forget to forget me". In reality, you might just want to stay in the other's head?

Bela B: The idea for the text comes from a doo-whop song from the 40s and was the hanger for writing the song. The phrase "Do not forget to forget me" and "People like me fuck people like you" I have deliberately set in such a way. The statements are the principles of an outside light. Otherwise, it will be a "mehrnightstand" and then an affair and then relationship and then an unhappy separation (laughs). It was all about the rhythm and the technique. Quasi a choir of sex and Erlebnishungrigen!

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: So here comes the raised index finger?

Bela B: Of course! In times of AIDS (laughs).

The song: "Old asshole love"

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: In the song "Old Asshole Love" you sing the lines: "Old asshole love, please let it be, I'm fine?" Is that resignation or egoism?

Bela B: Rather resignation. Or despair? The protagonist in the song has been left too often. The song is in some ways fictional, but of course based on personal experiences. The desire to personalize love and to tell him, the "asshole love", the opinion and to take a breath, I knew from my past. In the lyrics itself, there is also hope and the realization that he can not live without love.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: The first single is the song "Old Asshole Love" on the market. The music clip is pretty crazy. What was it about?

Bela B: The video for "Old Asshole Love" we have done with Wenzel Storch. This is an underground filmmaker, whom I met years ago, when Storch was shown with the short film "The Journey into Happiness" at a film festival. For the video for "Old Asshole Love" Wenzel has then designed a very strange 70s cocoon in which we have filmed.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: MTV-ready, the video is not exactly ...

Bela B: Of course, the video is getting used to for the very young MTV-trained eyes or fans of hip-hop. In the genre, you can only see thick cars and tightly clad, buxom ladies. For the video but I have not done synonymous.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: Now comes the raised index finger again?

Bela B: Yes! In addition to ringtones and strange programs, this station could once again remember the "music" in front of the TV and send more music.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: In the info for your new album you can read the following lines: "Code B is definitely punk-rock in attitude but does not smell like stale carpeting, scorched German shepherd and moldy canned beer nor does it bump the parental driveway on an overpriced skateboard Downstairs. " What does punk rock mean to you?

Bela B: Punkrock means: no fear of confrontation. From punk rock I've learned not to panic, to offend someone. To make my record as I want it, I have to tick.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: Could you expect more punk rock from you?

Bela B: All the punk rock outlines described are not given on this album. But there are already fast drums and guitars. My record is not provocative. In terms of content, however, I can not depend on what people expect from me. Of course, I only do what I want. Punkrock stop.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: In Punk, there was a mindset that you would not be older than thirty. Are the best youngsters dying?

Bela B: The real point attitude is more like "Do what you want". The world's oldest punk rocker, Charlie Harper of the UK Subs, was already over thirty when he founded the band. He has white hair today, is over sixty and still appears. At the age of 17, I also thought that I would not reach the age of forty. And I have to experience something now. Of course, today I think differently. I'm in my mid-forties and there is still so much ahead of me. Then I say "shit on punk rock" for that matter.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: Punkrock celebrated his 30th birthday years ago. Is it time for nostalgia?

Bela B: Of course, no. My parents always wanted me to listen to Elvis. I said, "Take off, with your fat Elvis!" Should I tell the kids today, "Bushido is stupid, Johnny Rotten was much better"? That would be silly.

Bela B and his female side

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: Your album is all about feelings - more of a women's topic. What about your feminine side?

Bela B: Of course I have a female side. Women also have a male side. But men and women often hide that. In Chinese athletes, however, you can see the male side very clearly (laughs).

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: You are referred to by the media as a "punk womanizer"? and? women's understanding? described. Why is that?

Bela B: I thought that was totally funny and my girlfriend at the time was pissing with laughter. It is probably due to my lyrics. In many songs, such as "Ninjababy" and "Love and Gasoline," I sing of very strong women. But I am also the type of "sometimes women liked to write a little bit of Haue". So everything stays in balance.

Bela B and the Elder

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: In the title "Birthday Dress" is the classic women's theme: getting older. How do you handle age?

Bela B: I have to be careful that I'm not embarrassed and perform a funny fashion dance with spandex pants on stage, although it already tenses in the hip and the intervertebral disc cracks. As a rock musician you are actually a professional teenager. For certain situations, I keep a twelve-year-old in me to be open to inspiration and ideas. But in principle, I have no problem with the elderly.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: In the song "oh so immortal" you take a look into the past. Was everything better in the old days?

Bela B: A review would not be written at the age of 19. What should one write about? Kindergarten? Primary school? I am not a man who looks back wistfully. I'm in favor of getting the best out of the now. And that's the message in my song too.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Young Miss: What did you always want to get rid of?

Bela B: Music is important. Do not forget, dear Bym.de readers, to buy music. Music is almost as important as shoes, if I may serve a cliché here. In addition, good plates last longer than shoes. So good records like mine for example.
