You do not treat yourself otherwise

They really do exist, these lucky moves: T-shirts, for example, that sit perfectly and are still washed after five years and washed x times like the first day, even though they only cost 15 marks. Or my favorite Blazer for 50 euros, which ennobles every jeans office and faithfully accompanies me on all journeys, because he neither buckles nor crinkles. Countless but are my short-term purchases, inexpensive pieces that actually wrinkle when trying on wrinkles, but only at home as definitely prove intolerable.

"My own fault," says my friend Silvia, "why do you always come back to this cheap stuff in. You can wear this, when you're 12. From 14 at the latest you should pay attention to quality, even if it's a bit more expensive. "

According to Silvia, quality is only found in decent stores, and decent stores bear the names of expensive designers. Without Silvia, I would never have ventured into such temples of coolness. She taught me years ago that you can look around in this air-conditioned chrome-glass teak shed as casually as Karstadt. Faster, of course, because a decent store that keeps up with, rarely presents more than ten parts per season, since Silvia and I are in a flash through.

Quality "Made in China"

Thanks to Silvia's leadership qualities, I can now largely withstand the strict views of the sales assistants. Of course, the Dominas, as I call them, immediately realize that my annual income is only just above theirs. "But they will still sell you something," says Silvia always encouraging, when an ultra-narrow mistress threatens to intimidate me.

Twice a year I let Silvia persuade me to make a special piece out of a decent store. "This coat for example," she insisted at the time, when we let the Italian top designer show us the new fall fashion, "this coat has style and quality, this coat, I swear it, you wear eternally, which may be a little more expensive! " A little more expensive in this case meant almost 2,000 euros. I let myself be persuaded by Silvia and the incredibly handsome salesman, who made no secret of the fact that women leave him absolutely cold, but still gave me the distinct feeling that he could weaken in girls wearing this coat.

I wore it four times, then began to dissolve the side seams and with them the sewn-in label, on which I could decipher "Made in China". So much for quality. I brought the noble piece back to the store to let the handsome shop manager assure me that this had never happened before, but absolutely never happened, and that, of course, the coat was immediately sent to the Milan headquarters and repaired. Already six months later I was able to pick him up again, it was March and anyway time for summer shopping with Silvia.

During the repair, the good piece was only a tiny bit narrower, at the most four centimeters, so that I could no longer button it down. Silvia's only comment: "Such a coat you wear anyway only open." "Even if you freeze?" In principle, she does not answer such trivial questions.

Incidentally, the mantle of silence rests on a dark blue costume, which, on her advice, I had done for a really important job interview. It was about as expensive as my used car (not counting the matching blouse, the matching shoes and stockings), but Silvia said that this costume would predestine me for a managerial function and anyway you need such a garment anyway, it would of course forever , never go out of fashion, and so on.

If necessary, classic two-parters can also be combined individually

Of course, she could not have guessed that two months later, I would lose five kilos thanks to a new love and my resulting desire to move. Although I was happy, but definitely too thin for the noble costume. (Incidentally, I did not get the job, which, as Silvia lovingly noted, could not possibly have been due to my outfit - she's really my best friend!)

For the summer season, we took the French couturiers. The white linen suit from Paris was really darn good to me, Silvia could not calm down anymore. "What's 1,500 euros for a classic piece that you can wear every year? Absolutely timeless, this suit. You have to treat yourself!" I begrudge him. I wore it when Silvia invited me to the restaurant of her golf club on the first warm summer evening. When threading on the passenger seat of her convertible, I wiped my white leg pants leg over a kind of black grease that, according to Silvia, had never, absolutely never been, on her car.Unfortunately, the black stuff could not be removed from the fine pants. Silvia comforted me with the fact that I could also wear the jacket of the former two-piece suit to other pants.

I bought two pastel-striped trousers in one of those department stores that Silvia would never step on, which would have been the perfect match for the blazer, had not the lapels of the absolutely timeless jacket had come out of fashion. The good piece is now waiting in my cupboard for a summer in which exactly this cut will be in vogue again. Maybe Silvia will be right about at least one point: I will have this piece very, very long!
