Tradition, trend and humor

Good that the "Seehof" has not become a spa hotel.

"When we took over the house in fifth generation from my parents-in-law in 1996, we first had to renovate it.We originally wanted to set up a wellness area, but then we quickly agreed that nature is actually the better rest room," laughs Susi Schellhorn , So there is no spa, but all the more fun - everywhere on the way from the "Blue Salon" up to the rooms there are little delicacies to discover for the eye; the trophy of a stag, for example, that Susi knitted pink antlers for, or the colorful flashlight collection that she picked out in New York at a flea market for the "fisherman's room" on the second floor. Susi Schellhorn's husband Sepp, awarded the prestigious restaurant guide Gault Millau early on and thus once the youngest "gourmet chef" of Austria, today manages the gourmet restaurant "Hecht!" in the Seehof. Susi Schellhorn is responsible for furnishings and atmosphere in the house: lovingly painted rustic furniture meets sophisticated designer fabrics, in the hallways you can already see a stuffed groundhog, but on the tables in the salon are the latest trend magazines.

In the "old room", which has hardly been changed since 1727, the priest's bell bag is still hanging, but the benches are covered with colorful Milanese fabrics. Susi Schellhorn also encountered resistance with this mix of tradition and innovation: "When we started with the themed rooms more than ten years ago, the excitement was great." Our homage to the former mud bath house of Sepps grandfather is a room with a bath in the middle of Space - something that was simply unthinkable in our region back then! "She recalls. But with the guests the concept arrived.

Specialties in "Hofmark (t) 44"

Today there are ten themed rooms in the "Seehof". "It is important that you do not get tunnel vision, I always want to be open to new things," said Susi Schellhorn. Just opposite the hotel, it has opened the "Hofmark (t) 44", a small shop with products from the "Seehof" kitchen and from the Salzburg region - traditional dishes such as schnapps and dandelion honey, but also something new: cushions, printed with the counterfeits the family dogs, and even sewn bags of colorful fabrics.

Tip: Our author recommends the aromatic dandelion honey by Susi Schellhorn - it is slightly viscous and tastes delicious with yoghurt, pancakes or in salad dressing. You can order it in a beautifully designed slim bottle (200 ml) for 5.90 euros plus shipping costs at www.seehof-goldegg.com. "Hotel Seehof", A-5622 Goldegg am See.
