This happens to your body when you drink Cola Light

Effects of Cola Light on the body

1. food cravings

As several studies have shown, the aspartame sweetener in Cola Light activates the reward centers in your brain even more than refined sugar. Specifically, this means: The sweetener causes the blood sugar to skyrocket, which leads to food cravings. As a result, we consume more calories than normal Coca Cola would.

2. Diabetes risk increases

A study by the American Diabetes Association found a link between Cola Light and Type 2 diabetes. Those who consume the drink regularly, therefore, has a 67 percent higher risk of diabetes. Well, if that is no reason to delete the light version of the menu.

3. Weight gain

The sweetener aspartame, however, is not only suspected to boost cravings, but also to promote fat storage in the body. The empty calories you consume through Cola Light are compensated by extra calories. As already said: For psychological reasons, we allow ourselves for a light cola rather a portion of fries, as if we had resorted to the sugary variant.

4. Aspartame as a nerve poison?

A study conducted at the University of Pretoria found that the artificial sweetener can cause degeneration of brain cells and other mental disorders. Thus, the researchers found a link between an increased intake of aspartame and certain mental disorders, such as ADHD, learning difficulties and emotional disorders.

BUT: The EU Food Authority (ESFA) gave the all-clear in the last race. Anyone who consumes Cola Light in normal quantities would not have to face any health risks. Only heavy consumption may cause nerve damage under certain circumstances.
