The cashmere rip-off: keep an eye out for cheap cashmere products

Cashmere sweaters are cheap to shop in many fast-fashion stores and sometimes cost less than 100 euros. How is this possible where cashmere is considered a costly rarity?

Inexpensive goods for inferior quality

"Beware, consumer trap" has gone to the tricks of the manufacturers to the bottom and reveals that the low-priced commodity would be processed inferior quality: While high-quality pullovers are made of valuable, long and fine cashmere fiber, short-cut models at short processed in the production, which are significantly inferior and for high-quality cashmere products would be out of the question.

Pilling is the result of cheaper products

By using short-fiber cashmere wool, the products tend to pilling much faster, resulting in unsightly nodules on the surface of the fiber due to friction during wear. The precious hair merchant Michael dal Grande warns in the consumer magazine in addition to cheap offers, as the manufacturers would allegedly give other fibers in the production and thus significantly reduce costs. It may happen that 100% cashmere is labeled on the label, but this is not true. The consumer magazine test even exposes the fact that around 20 percent of the goods tested would be subject to counterfeiting this year: Here, blended fabrics were issued as pure cashmere and thus consumers were deceived by the magazine.

If you want quality, you pay more

If you come across a comparatively cheap cashmere product, you should take a closer look. Because here are often used inferior fibers. The strong pilling-prone fibers and the possible addition of sheep's wool, for example, make sure that your purchased part looks ugly. So think about whether you would rather pay a little more for a high-quality sweater but then make sure that the products look high-quality and well-groomed for a long time.
