"Shrek, the third"

When six years ago a friendly but suspicious monster trampled on the big screen, no one could have guessed that "Shrek" would usher in a revolution in animated films. He inspired the masses. With a mix of cool soundtrack and crazy allusions to the fairytale and modern pop culture, especially with his characters: humanized, talking animals, technically perfectly implemented. Rarely before have so many grown-ups seen a children's movie as the story of the green ogress Shrek, who falls in love with the fat ogre princess Fiona and frees her from the clutches of the lightly spoiled, well-groomed Prince Charming with the help of a pesky ass. Part Two also took this success, millions of spectators kept their bellies laughing as Shrek met his human in-laws in the Kingdom of Far, Far Away and a studded cat expanded the crazy group that was purring with a Spanish accent.

A shock after another for Shrek

No wonder then that Hollywood studio bosses got carried away to "Shrek the Third". And that begins dramatically: The King of Weit, Weit Weg passes away. Still on his deathbed, the transformed frog king Harold hands over the scepter and power to his son-in-law Shrek and daughter Fiona. Oh dear, the green ogre has nothing in it but to live a stiff life far away from its stinking swamp. Lucky for him, Harold's last breath catches the name of a distant relative: Artie, who is lonely at boarding school, is also entitled to the throne. However, he does not know about it yet. Shrek sets off with his friends to get Artie far, far away. Shrek's next fright sets in when she leaves: Fiona announces to her husband that she is expecting a baby. From now on, the green is tormented by terrible nightmares full of screaming, spitting and destructive ogre children.

Terror attack on Far, Far way

While Shrek has to deal with horror imaginings, in Far, Far Away Terrible happens: Prince Charming is fed up with playing the jester for the mob and places himself claim to possession of the orphaned throne. Snooping around Captain Hook, Snow White's mother-in-law, witches, and the other losers of the dark fairytale forest, The Snoop flies a stunning and perfectly choreographed terrorist attack on the contemplative Far, Far Away. Streets and houses are destroyed and the Queen's widow, Fiona and her celebrity friends from the fairytale world (Snow White, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella) are captured. But what should the tea party do if the male aid is not around, but is stuck with the crazy wizard Merlin? The answer is in the truest sense of the word resounding: Fiona's mother goes with her head through the wall and freed the ladies, Snow White charms the enemy's guards first with a siren-like song, then with the help of Bambi and Co. to attack. "Charlie's Angels", these women look old - fortunately for Shrek and his joy ...

The Arthurian legend has to believe it

© UIP

"Shrek, the Third" uses unrestrained figures and stories of the fairytale world and has no fear to kidnap the venerable Arthurian legend. Unfortunately - and this is the only downer - the donkey and the puss in the boots do their usual gag program, and there are no surprises. But this is made up for by some brilliant scenes: Grandios is Merlins as a tawdry, completely crazy wizard who stumbles without pants, but with socks in his sandals through the area. Very weird: the boarding scenes, in which the clichés of American high school films are transferred to a medieval setting. On every corner a screamer: in dialogues, background scenes and music.

A fourth part?

© UIP

How to proceed with the green ogre? The really important in the film industry have already announced a fourth part after the successful US start weekend. Unlike films such as "Pirates of the Caribbean 3" and "Spider-Man 3", whose story is completely unnecessary because it was already finished in Part One, we look forward to a Shrek sequel. Because as the loveable monster really beats as a father, we just have to see.
