Shock at birth: mother cries when she sees her baby

It was a shock to her when Shawntel Poidmor saw her baby Leonardo for the first time. When she lay on the hospital chair after the birth, she heard someone say: "He has a big birthmark on his face."

But never could the former candidate of the American version of "The Bachelor" have imagined what she saw then. This photo of her son posted on Instagram:

Dear Journal, It's 1am and I'm up in the dark feeding my perfectly made baby boy, Leonardo Joshua Poidmore. Born on October 18th, 2018 weighing 8lbs 2 oz. Laying on the operating table I heard he's got a big birthmark on his face. And I did not think much of it till I saw it and honestly what a little shocked. It's more than half of his face. Bright reddish purple! So many thoughts ran through my mind like, wants this fade, wants to get worse, what does other people think, kids at school wants to make fun of him & can this lead to other health issues. Once we were able to see the pediatrician we heard the name, PWS (port wine stain) which is a vascular birthmark that can lead to some scary things down the road. PWS. One out of every thousand kids will get this, then about 5 percent. But we are learning that due to the particular location of Leo's PWS he has a much higher chance of much higher complications (optic & neural). I immediately started crying and felt out of control. As parents we want to protect our babies from everything; protect them from getting hurt. However, we forget that God is in control! I do not really have the power to protect my kids from everything. God is our protector! After we came to grips with what we were told we put it all in God's hands. Leo is already a fighter (just like his brother) & all the nurses say he has an amazing & moving spirit about him. We'll get in touch with specialist to keep an eye on things. For anyone who? S familiar with PWS please feel free to reach out to me! #leothebrave

The birthmark stretches across the entire left side of the little boy's face and looks threateningly red. It is a Feuermal, in Germany also Port wine stain called.

Shawntel Poidmor writes on Instagram:

When I saw this great birthmark, a thousand thoughts raced through my head. Will that go away? Will it get worse? What will other people think? The kids at school will mock him. And I wondered if this birthmark will cause any health problems.

And indeed, the pediatrician said, according to Shawntel, that Leonardo's birthmark is a so-called fire mallow that, if left untreated, could possibly develop into a problem.

Mostly, such follicles are harmless, but in some cases, for example, it can lead to the formation of blood-filled nodules, which can bleed very much. A fire pot can also be a sign of other malformations of the body. In case of doubt, a review by a doctor is recommended in any case.

Of course, Shawntel immediately considered whether the Feuermal could be surgically removed. However:

Leo's Feuermal is such that an operation would bring great risks, both visually and for the nerves. When I heard that, I cried so much and completely lost control.

The reaction of the mother is completely understandable. Probably every mother would be shocked to learn that her baby is marked by a potentially dangerous birthmark.

"My Leo is a fighter"

All the more impressive is what Shawntel now writes about the photo of her little Leo: "As parents, we want to protect our babies first of all, we want to protect them from being hurt. We forget that it is ultimately in the hands of God. I just can not protect my kids from everything. God is our protector. Leo is already a fighter (just like his brother), and all the nurses say he has an amazing and moving charisma. We will now contact specialists and keep an eye on how things are going. Anyone who is familiar with such Feuermalen may like to contact me. "

We are very impressed with how much positive energy Shawntel is taking on her son's fate, trusting that everything will be fine, and wholeheartedly wish the little fighter his health will develop well!
