Oversize 40: Women protest against mango
The German average woman is 1.65 meters tall and wears size 44. That's normal - but not in the house Mango. Here, oversize is starting to grow from size 40 onwards. In January, the Spanish fashion chain launches the "Violeta by Mango" collection, which will appeal to "Plus Size" women and will be available in sizes 40 to 52. Mango draws a dangerous image of women and at the same time stigmatises thousands of women as being overweight.
The Internet is now protesting: Spanish activists launched on Change.org a petition that asks Mango to reconsider its own size policy. They have already signed on 75,000 supporters and vent their anger on the social media under the # mango40 hashtag.
Mango can not understand the excitement. Compared to the "look" said company spokesman, the size policy "have no negative impact on the body awareness of customers."
