The novel for the film delivered Jodie Picoult's bestseller "My Sister's Keepers", Director Nick Cassavetes, best known for his humourous "Just One Day," remains true to his melodramatic genre, staging a heartbreaking family tragedy. The stylistic devices are effective and manipulatively used: reminiscences told from the off, flashbacks accompanied by sad music and maudlin moments of happiness in slow motion bring tears to the eyes of the audience.

The sad story of a young cancer patient is really no easy diet. Nevertheless, it is "By the life of my sister" a nice and successful movie. If you like smells, you can look forward to it and keep your handkerchiefs ready.

Director Stephan Frears ("High Fidelity") has it "Chéri" managed to stage a film that goes deeply under the skin with little action and without feeling. The film captivates with its exaggerated characters and witty dialogues - and yet reveals all the tragedy that is in an unfortunate love.

The cast is also perfectly chosen: Rupert Friend as a bored, spoiled, yet charming lover, Kathy Bates as matronly Madame Preloux and Michelle Pfeiffer, who convinced by razor-sharp word wars. Add to that lavish costumes and a great scenery.

A wonderful love movie!
