Health hazard! Millions of charged eggs are being recalled

Millions of eggs are contaminated with biocide

Currently, around 875,000 eggs sold are being recalled in North Rhine-Westphalia because they have come into contact with the insecticide fipronil. About 2.9 million contaminated eggs were delivered from the Netherlands and Belgium to NRW, of which 875,000 were already on the market before the recall. As n-tv reports, some eggs have also found their way from the Netherlands to Lower Saxony. It should be about 1.3 million affected eggs.

Fipronil is used to control fleas, lice, cockroaches, ticks and mites, but is not officially approved in factories. The fact that the insecticide was still used, has been noticed only at checks by Dutch and Belgian authorities. According to the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment, there is a health risk, especially for children, in adults, the low dose can not do much. However, high doses of Fipronil can cause damage to the liver, thyroid and kidney.

These batches are affected!

As the food authority announced on Tuesday, the consumption of eggs with the imprint X-NL-40155XX could be harmful to health. The batches are mainly to be found in NRW. In Lower Saxony, the batches concerned can be identified by stamp impressions 1-NL 4128604 and 1-NL 4286001. The dates are between 9 and 21 July 2017.

So far, by the way, in the eggs of 30 poultry operators the harmful insecticide was discovered. The prosecution determines whether fipronil may also have been used in German laying hen farms.
