Hans-Dietrich Genscher is dead

As his office announced Genscher died on Thursday from cardiovascular failure. Hans-Dietrich Genscher (FDP) held almost throughout from 1974 to 1992, the Office of the German Foreign Minister and was especially known for his detente policy in the Cold War. He became famous mainly because of his unforgotten appearance in 1989, when he was allowed to inform the GDR refugees in the Prague embassy that they could leave for the West. Shortly afterwards he wrote history as one of the architects of German unity. In 1992, Genscher ended his political career at his own request, but remained one of the most popular FDP politician, who continued to speak out in political crises.

For many years, the ex-Foreign Minister had been struggling with health problems that he considered more of a daily challenge, rather than a cause for action: "I take it the way it is, I do not complain, I rejoice every day New, to have brought it to this point, "Genscher once told the SZ.
