Glenn Close: She triumphs at the Independent Spirit Awards

On the eve of the 91st Academy Awards, not only the Golden Raspberries, Hollywood's Scots Award, but also the Independent Spirit Awards 2019 have been awarded. Each year, they feature the best independent films. Glenn Close (71) won her first Indie Award for her performance in "The Woman of the Nobel Prize Laureate". She came with her dog to the award ceremony. At the Oscars, the 71-year-old is also nominated as "Best Actress". Were the Spirit Awards a harbinger? These films and stars could cheer at the indie prices.

Does "Roma" cream everything?

The male counterpart to Glenn Close in the lead actor category is Ethan Hawke (48) for his performance in First Reformed. At the Oscars, however, he was not considered. "Beale Street" by director Barry Jenkins (39, "Moonlight") was awarded Best Picture, Jenkins Best Director, and actress Regina King (48) Best Supporting Actor. King can also hope for an Oscar in the Supporting Actor category.

The same is true for Richard E. Grant (61), who for his performance in "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" got the Spirit Award as "Best Supporting Actor" and is in Oscar Racers. The film starring Melissa McCarthy (48) was also awarded the Best Screenplay.

Also "Roma" by director Alfonso Cuarón (57) can pocket another prize. The black and white drama received the award for Best International Film. With ten nominations each, "Roma" and "The Favorite - Intrigue and Insanity" will be favorites in the 91st Academy Awards, which will take place in Los Angeles on February 24th.
