Dye hair - how it works!

Rich cocoa butter, regenerating apricot kernel oil, protective vitamin E: Ingredients that we know from body lotions or day creams, are now also in more and more colorations. Sounds good, but in order for the pigments of the color to get into the hair, the outer layer of the scaly skin still has to be opened. This usually happens with ammonia, a chemical compound of nitrogen and hydrogen. Hydrogen peroxide then anchors the pigments inside the hair. Finally, the cuticle layer is closed again as much as possible. This means stress for the hair, and so especially for already damaged hair, a new color is not recommended. The companies are therefore working on nourishing alternatives? and have already found out a lot: In the meantime, it has become possible to make the dyeing process more gentle, to allow the colorants to have a shorter effect or to better cover gray hair.

Dye hair: Should it go fast?

New are colorations that stay in your hair for only ten minutes instead of half an hour. For this to work, they contain slightly more hydrogen peroxide than other dyes or agents, such as. For example, the amino acid arginine, which the color faster into the hair interior. At the same time, the pH was lowered; the lower it is, the less the hair swells and gets damaged. For comparison, while the pH is 10 with pure water and 10 with conventional colorations, it is here 9. The only drawback: The speed variant works only in more natural colors, bright fashion colors are not possible in the short time. Quick it's z. With: "Excell 10 '" by L' Oréal Paris; "Coloriste" with arginine from Schwarzkopf.

Dye hair: but please gently!

Gentle are products without ammonia: Many cosmetics companies now offer a mixture of color and intensive tint. Instead of ammonia, it contains a substitute (eg ethylamine), which makes the hair less swelling and thus does not damage it as badly. Investigations show that, for example, the combability improves significantly. However, the color does not get as deep into the hair as in a conventional coloration. Thus, the result holds only up to about 25 washes, also you can lighten your hair with a maximum of a shade. Incidentally, the color is often referred to differently depending on the manufacturer, z. B. as intensive tint or care coloring. Do not be confused: the technology is always the same.

Antioxidants pamper your hair: If hydrogen peroxide and the shed-opening agent react with each other, free radicals are created that strain the hair and make the color fade faster. Most of them are rinsed out immediately after dyeing, but a small part may stick in the hair until the next or the next wash. Antioxidants such. B. Vitamin E can alleviate the harmful effects during this time something. The protection stops about two to three washes? After that, the radical scavengers are washed out, but can be fed again with the help of special care products for colored hair.

Hair dyeing: Anti-aging for the hair

At the hairdresser, there are now many colorations that cover gray strands particularly well, and that promise more and more colorations for self-application. So that nothing goes wrong at home, the manufacturers often keep the color concentration deliberately low enough so that the hair is not dyed uniformly but shines through lighter strands, thus preserving the hair's natural play of colors. Fine gray strands are easy to conceal, especially when darkened. The higher the proportion of gray hair and the brighter the desire shade, the worse the color covers, however. For women who want to make gray highlights completely disappear, a hairdresser's visit can make sense: in the salon, the product is mixed individually and can be so much better to personal preferences. In addition, the new colorants are more specific to the structure of mature hair: as early as 30, hair's own lipids lose around 0.5 percent per year. At first you hardly notice the difference, but at about 40 the hair becomes noticeably finer. At the same time, where color pigments (melanin) once sat, small cavities are created that cause an uneven structure and make hair often feel a bit unruly. The high content of care substances strengthens and makes it more supple.

Great for mature hair z. B: "Color Supreme" by L 'Oréal Professionnel; "Color Touch Plus" from Wella Professionals.

Coloring hair: the colors of nature

Those who are allergic to certain chemical substances or prefer cosmetics with natural ingredients, takes a herbal hair color that contains various herbs, fruits and bark extracts in addition to henna. It gives the hair delicate to bright red shades. Rich browns and blacks with a very soft red shimmer are also possible. Just lightening does not work, since without hydrogen peroxide only darker shades can be achieved. But even here there are differences: some manufacturers give small amounts of hydrogen peroxide in the product to whiten at least a nuance. If you do not want to do so, check the list of ingredients (hydrogen peroxide = H2O2) or pay attention to the seal "Controlled Natural Cosmetics" before ordering: This guarantees that no synthetic colorings, fragrances or preservatives are included. When using plant dyes, it is important to remember that overdyeing on henna-colored hair often does not work so well. So first only color a test cream and note the exact exposure time.

For example, dye with less or no chemistry. B.: "Gentle Cream Coloration" by Puravera (but contains hydrogen peroxide); "Plant Hair Color Cream" by Logona; "100% plant hair color" by Sante.

Dye hair: then properly care!

Special shampoos and cures contain extra moisture binders as well as antioxidants and UV filters that protect against damaging environmental influences. Good are also care and styling products with color pigments that refresh the tone until the next wash. Ideal for blondes: care products that remove matting residue very thoroughly, neutralize yellowish color with purple pigments, or counteract darkening with optical brighteners that better reflect light.

Color-treated hair care for. For example: "Brilliant Color Shampoo" with UV protection from Nivea Hair Care. For blondes: "Farbglanz Blond" Shampoo by Guhl; "Sheer Blonde Color Renew Shampoo" with optical brighteners by John Frieda. For brunette: "Brunette Expressions Color Gloss Intensive Mask" by Pantene Pro-V. For redheads: "Colorglow IQ Deep Reflects" conditioner from Goldwell.

Dye hair: And if something goes wrong?

1. Most people rate their hair color too dark. If you can not decide between two nuances, you should therefore choose the brighter tone - this is the result of a more natural look.

2. Protect the forehead and facial margins with a strip of fatty cream from running paint.

3. Mild skin discoloration can be wiped off with a few drops of lemon juice and some vegetable oil. Persistent residues disappear after a short time by itself.

4. Dissatisfied with the color result? Better to let the barber in now? subsequent coloring is difficult!
