Make concrete decoration yourself: Concrete mixture or Knetbeton?

An advantage of Knetbetons is that you no longer need to touch it and can model any shape. The Concrete mixture however, it is only possible to pour. In the specialized trade you also get Creative Concretewhich only has to be mixed with water. This is relatively more expensive than touching concrete with cement and sand itself (more on that in the next sections). It's best to find out for yourself which concrete you prefer to work with.

All variants, however, convince with the fact that they do not have to be dried in a (firing) oven, as is often the case with the salt dough recipe or the pottery (but that's also fun: pottery: ideas for home-made ceramics).



What do I need for concrete decoration?

You get creative concrete and kneaded concrete, for example. in the craft shop. For working with a concrete mixture you need the following ingredients:

  • water
  • Cement (eg from the hardware store)
  • quartz sand
  • vegetable oil
  • molds
  • sandpaper
  • Optional: color

How do I touch concrete?

To mix the concrete, first mix 1 part of cement with 3 parts of sand. Then you add water as needed, so much until the desired consistency is achieved.

To spice up your decoration, it's best to brush and paint! This gives the concrete decoration an individual touch. In addition to painting, you still have the opportunity to decorate them with sisal or lace applications or to design with shells or small mosaic stones. Even patterns can be wonderful, z. The tealight holders convince with their simple yet elegant design:

  

What else do I need?

  • Empty tealight envelope
  • Empty and clean milk carton
  • Furniture slide-stopper for sticking

And this is how you make tealight holders made of concrete:

  1. Cut off the lid of the milk carton.
  2. Stir the concrete as indicated.
  3. Cover the box with a little oil from the inside, using a silicone baking brush.
  4. Now fill the concrete in the milk carton? as high as you would like the tealight holder in the end.
  5. Press the empty tealight in the top.
  6. Complain the tealight, z. B. with small stones. This will prevent the tealight from coming up again.
  7. Allow to dry for several days.
  8. Once it has dried, sand the top slightly until it looks even.
  9. Now you can still paint the tealight holder? or just leave it like that.
  10. Finally you stick on the bottom still slip stopper.

What else do I need?

  • Bowl in the desired size
  • Smaller plastic shell for the plant
  • Water-repellent paint

Step by step to the concrete flowerpot

  1. Stir the concrete as indicated.
  2. Brush your mold from the inside with some oil.
  3. Fill the concrete in this mold.
  4. Coat the second, smaller bowl with the oil from the outside.
  5. Press these up into the concrete mass.
  6. Complain the smaller shell with stones or similar.
  7. Allow to dry for several days.
  8. Once it has dried, remove the pot from the large mold and remove the smaller dish as well. Loop the top surface until it looks even.
  9. Paint the inside with water-repellent paint and let it dry thoroughly.
  10. Now you can paint them, e.g. Paint a pattern on the outside or the top with golden paint.

Decorative bowl made of concrete: how it works!

The individual shape is a real highlight in the apartment:

You need:

  • 400 g concrete powder (creative concrete from the craft shop)
  • water
  • balloon
  • Metallic color

That's how it works:

  1. Stir the concrete powder with water.
  2. Blow up a balloon.
  3. Divide the concrete mixture on one half of the balloon. Make the ends unevenly.
  4. Let everything dry out for at least one day.
  5. Hit the balloon to burst and remove it from the shell.
  6. Now paint the bowl from the inside with a metallic color of your choice.

Concrete decoration: hearts as a hanger

For this concrete decoration you need cutters ? that can be hearts, but also any other arbitrary form. From this you can make a chain pendant, a decorative pendant or a card holder.

  1. Grease the cookie cutter from the inside to make it easier to loosen the concrete later. Place the shape z. B. in a flat plastic bowl.
  2. Pour in the concrete.
  3. So you later have holes for a chain or a band to hang, put greased stalks or thick wooden sticks in the mass before it dries.
  4. And again: let it dry thoroughly, remove it from the mold, remove the rods and arrange them as you like.
