Active holiday in the summer

By bicycle

At a total of 6000 kilometers, the North Sea Cycle Route once leads around the North Sea, through England, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and a good piece, more than 1000 kilometers, also along the southern Norwegian coast. From Oslo, it first winds down to Kristiansand and then back north to Bergen. Of course you do not have to bother everything at once, and certainly not plan any violent trips. A well-manageable, relatively flat stretch of 200 kilometers, for example, leads through the beautiful landscape of Egersund to Haugesund and also passes through Norway's oil city Stavanger. If you would like to be comfortable, you can book an organized cycling tour with luggage transport on this route, for example on Viking trips, 12 days cost from 1648 euros. Along the Telemark Canal

Even though today mainly only amateur captains can be channeled through the eighteen locks, once the Telemark Canal was the lifeblood of the region. As a "Hurtigruten" between eastern and western Norway, the canal was the most important traffic route for people, livestock, goods and timber between the mountains and the coast. The 105-kilometer-long waterway overcomes a difference in altitude of 72 meters from Skien on the south coast of Telemark to Dalen at the foot of the Hardangervidda plateau. Cyclists experience on the track the locks of ships, quaint village shops and shops. Popular is a combination of bike ride and shipping - on the water aboard one of the 100-year-old canal ships and by bike along the canal bank. The cycle route leads from Dalen to Ulefoss / Skien on less traveled routes or completely car-free roads and paths. Telemarkreiser offers ready-made bicycle package tours. The Nidrasdom

The pilgrim route: Trondheim, the former Nidaros, was for a long time the first capital of Norway. From here, the Vikings left for Iceland and Greenland. Today, Trondheim is the third largest city in Norway and still the historic center of the country. Visible from afar, the towers of Nidarosdome, Scandinavia's largest medieval building, overlook the old royal city. All kings of Norway were and are crowned here and the royal crown with the imperial regalia is exhibited in the church. The cathedral was built over the grave of Saint Olav - after his death in 1030, the tomb became northern Europe's main pilgrimage destination. If you like, you can now go back on old pilgrim paths - in 1997, the pilgrimage was reopened. It leads from Oslo through the Gudbrandsdal and the cool heights of the Dovrefjells National Park to the city by the fjord. Information at: Trondheim Aktivum AS www.trondheim.com. There are route descriptions (in English) here and under www.pilegrim.no.
