You should not take this popular headache tablet

It's even a whole family of painkillers that are apparently dangerous. Because the researchers from Denmark have found out: So-called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can increase the risk of cardiac arrest!

NSAID? I have never heard that!

The medication family is broad - but you certainly know one of the remedies involved: ibuprofen. Exactly the active ingredient on which many of us resort to headaches. But ibuprofen not only makes our headache disappear, but also attacks the heart, as the experts have discovered. Their results have been published in the "European Heart Journal".

How do the researchers come up with that?

The experts studied about 30,000 cardiac arrest patients in Denmark for almost ten years and found that more than 3,000 had taken NSAID medication.

The other result of the study: ibuprofen increases the risk of cardiac arrest by 31 percent, the prescription painkiller diclofenac even by 50 percent. The Council of Experts: Both agents should only be taken after consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

And what have headache pills to do with cardiac arrest?

The researchers explain: NSAID drugs have a profound effect on the body's cardiovascular system. They affect the arteries and blood pressure. This could also explain the increased cardiac arrest risk.
