Away with the beauty ideals!

Beauty ideals are powerful. The many images of supposedly ideal bodies that surround us ensure that we compare ourselves to unattainable role models. Because the ideal woman does not exist in truth, after all, advertising photos are processed massively on the computer. The result: the comparison inevitably turns out to be unfavorable and we have much to complain about.

It is a pity too: ideals blind us to the beauty of people who do not suit them. Diversity is not a lack, but enrichment.

"People want to see normal people again"

With her photo project #? Bodylove, plus-size model and photographer Silvana Denker campaigns for more diversity. She portrays normal people naked? and even goes on tour with them through German inner cities. As on a catwalk, the women and men in the pedestrian zones presented themselves in underwear. The thirty-one-year-old from the Westerwald wants to show that you can be beautiful with any clothing size, hair and skin color and at any age, and that "you should not be intimidated by the media and the beauty ideal propagated there and can and should love each other so much as it is, even people with disabilities can be beautiful, "she emphasizes.

Plus-size model Sandra and her husband Markus: "When Silvana asked if I, or we wanted to be part of the project, I did not think long - rightly, I did not think twice and was directly on fire.
