This law was designed to combat violence against women - but it was already off the agenda again!

In German refugee housing, violence against women is almost the rule: in Berlin alone, hundreds of victims of violence have turned to the women's organization Lara this year, reporting shocking experiences.

Another 90 women came to the Berlin initiative against violence against women. Most of the time it is sexual violence.

Known problem: The EU has been investigating for 2 years

The problem has long been known: in 2015, the EU called on the German government to pass a law protecting refugees and children.

The EU Commission has even launched an infringement procedure because, inter alia, Germany violates the EU Reception Conditions Directive? It stipulates protective measures for women in need of special protection.

In fact, the Bundestag has already submitted a bill? but on Friday before the federal election, the Federal Council kicked off the topic BEFORE THE SECOND TIME on the agenda. Instead, he has imposed higher penalties for mobile phone use at the wheel ...

And without a law? Is no improvement in sight ...

As long as it is not regulated by law how violence in refugee accommodation should be prevented, an improvement in the situation is rather unlikely.

Possible measures could be that employees are trained in violence prevention. Or that the hostels hire or appoint contact persons who are exclusively responsible for acts of violence.

But who pays for the training? Where does the money for additional helpers or working hours come from?

Now the government has to go again - but: who is actually governing?

Before the Federal Council again puts the law on the agenda, the Federal Government must respond to the noted "further need for advice" and make changes to the law. Well, and that can take!

For how difficult is the formation of a government after the general election is currently on everyone's lips. After the SPD has declared its intention to go into opposition, the Union, the Greens and the FDP must come together.

But with the sixty thousand thresholds to be overcome, it is more than questionable whether anyone else has the refugee victims on the slip of paper afterwards ...
