Jacqueline Kennedy, nee Lee Bouvier and from 1968 Onassis, short Jackie O, is not only a First Lady of the United States of America, but above all one of the most important style icons of the 20th century entered the history books.

The Parisian haute couture of the 1960s had chosen the former First Lady as a muse. John and Jackie brought new splendor and glamor to the White House. Year after year, Jacqueline came to couture shows with her mother-in-law Rose Kennedy. (It is rumored that both have spent at least $ 30,000 together each time.) Although Jackie had to officially renounce French fashion and get dressed by American designers soon, rumor has it that she simply copied the French cuts ,

When she appeared on a state visit to Givenchy in 1961, the press gave her the name "Her Elegance", When her husband John was assassinated on November 22, 1963, she proved attitude in Chanel. In 1966, she wore a miniskirt in public for the first time, to which the New York Times prophesied a "secure future".

It is safe to say that Jacqueline Kennedy set the tone in the 1960s, which was shaped by political, social and, not least, fashion changes was. She was a role model for many young women who dared to protest against the pseudo-conservative, dusty and simply no longer up-to-date morality of their parents. At the beginning perhaps only with a "far too short" skirt, later in feminist movements.

In 1968, Jackie Kennedy married the Greek shipowner and billionaire Aristotle Onassis. However, this did not detract from their popularity in the long run, even though the Bildzeitung wrote at the time that America had lost a "saint". A US commentator even described the wedding as one of the biggest evils facing American men since Pearl Harbor.

About her death at the age of 64 on 19 May 1994 addition Jackie O. remains one of the biggest and most important style icons of all time.
