Paper properly in five steps

You need this:

  • ruler
  • Trestle table
  • paste
  • brush
  • Bowl for the paste
  • Rubber roller or wallpaper brush
  • cutter
  • Possibly. ladder
  • Possibly. Coated waste or roll waste
  • Old clothes

That's how it's done:

1. Preparation

The wall must be prepared tipptopp. Remove the old wallpaper as completely as possible. For wallpaper with a very smooth surface, the wall should be prepared with a scrape before wallpapering. A coating waste is a paper powder that is stirred into water and mixed with some paste (at the hardware store). So that then the surfaces to be papered. Thanks to the coating waste, the wallpaper adheres better to the wall.

Attention: The wall must be absolutely absorbent. To check the absorbency, moisten the wall with a little water. If the water breaks off and does not move in, the wall is not ready for a new wallpaper! What to do? Get in the hardware store, a so-called rolling waste and apply! This ensures that the wall becomes absorbent again.

Generally, the heavier the wallpaper, the thicker the glue must be! So do not save, the paste very thoroughly stir in and swell until it is as good as transparent.

2. Cut wallpaper

Of course it is important to know how much wallpaper you need at all. Please measure all walls of the room to be wallpapered, including windows and doors.

Then use the following formula: Room perimeter (= length of all walls) x room height (= height of the wall, measured from the floor to the ceiling): 5 = required wallpaper.

An example: 18 meters (volume) x 2.50 meters (ceiling height): 5 = 9 square meters of wallpaper. Always leave 10 to 15 centimeters of waste per run. For wallpapers with patterns, each lane must be adjusted individually, the blending can therefore be greater. It is best that you inform yourself in the wallpaper retailer exactly about the blend.

3. Paste

Once you have measured your walls, trim several wallpaper sheets that you are sequentially pasting. After pasting a track, roll it from both ends to the middle. Attention: Do not kink the fold! So rolled up, the wallpaper then soft (the soft time is in the leaflet!). Please apply the same principle to the other tailor-made tracks. Keep doors and windows closed so that the wallpaper does not inflate and the drafts do not cause ugly dents.

4. Gluing

Then it's time to glue. In the same order as you pasted in the sheets, they also hit the wall. The first should be attached to the ceiling edge with some overhang, which you then cut away. Now smooth out the attached web with a wallpaper brush or rubber roller from the center to the outside. Press firmly on the edges of the wallpaper. If the first track is on the wall, attach the second edge to edge. So do not overlap, but stick right next to it, following the same principle as the first one. If paste stains emerge, it is best to remove immediately.

5. Dry

The wallpaper should not dry too fast, otherwise it can buckle on the edges. Our tip: Avoid heat and drafts.
