Make massage oil yourself: the basic recipe

You can make your own massage oil very easily, for that you need:

  • 100 ml base oil (eg vegetable oil)
  • about 10 drops of essential oil
  • Dark vial for filling
  • Possibly. funnel

Tip: Use a dark vial for your massage oil, because light can make some oils rancid.

And so you can do your own massage oil

  1. Put the base oil in the cleaned vial, if appropriate, use a funnel.
  2. Then you dribble the desired essential oil into the glass.
  3. Close the container and shake it vigorously to mix well.

These oils are suitable for massage oils

Olive oil spreads very well and is also great for dry and sensitive skin. Also make sure that the chosen oils match. Olive oil, for example, has a strong odor, be rather sparing with the essential oil.

Almond oil is also suitable for sensitive skin, it also has anti-inflammatory effect. Avocado oil is well tolerated and should promote the cell regeneration of the skin. You have dry skin? Then use sesame oil, which is good for dry skin, provides moisture and strengthens skin cells. Sesame oil also plays an important role as a massage oil in Ayurveda.



Essential oils for homemade massage oil

  • vanilla oil has an aphrodisiac effect
  • lavender oil has a calming and relaxing effect
  • lemon oil has an invigorating effect
  • Rose oil has a calming effect
  • Thyme, rosemary and peppermint oil stimulate the blood circulation

Caution: Before you start making your own massage oil, first test the essential oil for compatibility! Because these can cause allergic reactions.

An alternative to the oils are dried flowers such as lavender and chamomile or herbs such as lemon balm and rosemary. The oil should be prepared beforehand, because it must be a few days, so that smell and effect can unfold. Important: store in a dark place.
