Louis Vuitton: Michael Jackson inspired fashion is not sold

Only a few weeks ago, the luxury label Louis Vuitton presented an autumn / winter collection, which was partly inspired by Michael Jackson (1958-2009). Now the French fashion house explained that it would no longer produce the pieces that refer to the singer. The reason: The serious allegations of abuse, which are raised in the HBO documentation "Leaving Neverland".

The men's fashion show with outfits reminiscent of Jackson had taken place in January. The fashion was apparently sold from the summer. A few days after the show, director Dan Reed's documentary was shown for the first time at the Sundance Film Festival. Virgil Abloh, Artistic Director of Men's Clothing at Vuitton, made a statement to WWD: "I am aware that the show has provoked emotional reactions in the light of this documentary and I strongly condemn any form of child abuse, violence or injury of human rights. "

He wanted to refer to Michael Jackson as an artist of pop culture with this show, "says the designer. "It only referred to his public life, which we all know, and to his legacy, which has influenced a generation of artists and designers."

"Not known about the documentary"

Louis Vuitton CEO Michael Burke also told WWD: "We find the allegations in the documentation extremely disturbing." He added, "The safety and well-being of children is paramount to Louis Vuitton." Representatives of the fashion house explained therefore also that one knew of the documentation at the time of the show nothing.

In early March, the US station HBO had aired the documentary "Leaving Neverland". In it, Wade Robson and James Safechuck accuse the late Michael Jackson, who died in 2009, of having sexually abused her when they were children. German viewers will also be able to watch the four-hour documentary, which features not only men but also their friends and families, on TV as well. ProSieben has secured the rights and will show them this spring, on April 6, 2019.
