About T.C. Boyle

T (homas) C (Coraghessan) Boyle was born on December 2, 1948 in Peekskill, New York, the son of Irish immigrants. Actually his name is Thomas John Boyle. The complicated name Coraghessan he takes only at 17 years - inspired by an Irish ancestor on the mother's side.

T. C. Boyle has a difficult childhood: he comes from a poor working-class family, his parents are both alcoholics. He himself takes on a reputation as a wanderer and school failure. The high school graduation creates T.C. Boyle just barely.

While studying English and history at the State University of New York at Potsdam, he discovers literature and a fondness for authors such as Updike, Ibsen, Sartre, and Camus. He starts writing and attends creative writing courses.

After graduation, he returns to his hometown and teaches at his old high school. After four years he has enough of the school operation. In 1977, he earned a doctorate in 19th-century English literature at the University of Iowa. He also attends the "Writers Workshop" and is supported by John Irving, among others.

In 1979, T.C. Boyle published his first volume of narration: "The Decent Man". To date, he has published ten novels and six volumes of short stories.

T. C. Boyle has been married to Karen Kvashay since 1974. They have a daughter, Kerrie, and two sons, Milo and Spencer, and live in Santa Barbara, California. In addition to writing, T.C. Boyle as a literature professor at the University of Southern California.
