On November 8, 1939, a man is arrested on the border with Switzerland for possession of suspicious objects. Only minutes later, a bomb exploded in the Bürgerbräukeller in Munich, right behind the desk where Hitler gave his anniversary speech, and killed eight people. The arrested man is Georg Elser (Christian Friedel), a carpenter from the Swabian Königsbronn. When he finds a map of the place of attack and detonator with him, he is the head of the police in the Reich Security Main Office Arthur Nebe (Burghart Klaußner) and the Gestapo chief Heinrich Müller (Johann von Bülow) for interrogation.
