The new Barbie has stomach and hips

There they are now, smiling at the camera and can hardly believe it themselves: Barbie and her friends, who are allowed to reflect for the first time in their lives, that not all people are thin supermodels. After Mattel has made the look of the doll a bit more flexible (different skin tones, feet that do not just fit in shoes with heels, etc.), Barbie now comes in four different body shapes: tall, small, curvy - and of course still in the 'classic' Barbie form.

For a long time, the toy manufacturer has been criticized for his dolls setting a certain type of figure as "normal", and for playing children can create an unhealthy relationship to their own body. The new dolls are meant to be the first step in a new direction: "We have a responsibility to girls and parents to replay a different view of beauty," said Mattel manager Evelyn Mazzocco.

Of course, a toy manufacturer does that not out of pure philanthropy, but in order to make money. Maybe you did not want to let the competition doll Lammily, who has always put on a healthier body image, spoil the business.

But that's actually the real good news: It can now earn more money to show real and different figure types than with the old "So should women look" model.

The new Barbies will be available in Germany during the spring.
