No high heels? Then there is no red carpet!

If that's true, it would be a big own goal. The organizers of the Cannes Film Festival have long struggled with sexism allegations and are criticized for simply underrepresenting women at the event. And now that.

"You can not get in here with these shoes!"

Just this little scandal goes round: Some women were probably not to the screening of Todd Haynes' film "Carol", in which Cate Blanchett plays the lead, left. Why? Because they wore flat shoes. Not that they showed up in flip-flops or worn-out sneakers? the heels were only 10+ cm high. It's like a bad village disco: "You can not get in here with these shoes!"

Dress code in Cannes

Yes, there is a dress code at the film festival, which also applies to men. They have to go over the red carpets of Cannes in a tuxedo. It does not say what women's footwear should look like. Maybe only a few overzealous security officers have been important?

Why all the excitement, one wonders, many of the beautiful robes are so floor-length. No. This is really about the principle. How sexist this whole glittering world from Hollywood to Bollywood really is.

Everything invented?

Organizer Thierry Fremaux denied via Twitter that the high heels scheme exists. Whereas the theme of director Asif Kapadia, whose wife was vehemently opposed to the shoe industry, was further fueled. What's wrong? You do not know that yet. One woman on Twitter summed up the whole theater: "Women should wear high heels on the red carpet, one in each hand to chase away the fashion police."

Others, however, take it with humor

So let me get this straight: I could wear this on the red carpet at Cannes ... (1/2) pic.twitter.com/yRrBTcRX7X
