Makerist founder Amber Riedl: "Do not work in the company, but in the company!"

Founder Amber Riedl speaks in an interview with ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Academy about the decision to turn her hobby into a career. Together with Axel Heinz, she founded the company Makerist in 2013, a handwork school on the internet with step-by-step video instructions in HD quality and professional trainers.
On September 28, 2017, she will be holding a speed talk with other founders at the ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Academy Job Symposium.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Academy: Why did you start? What made you decide?
Amber Riedl: There was this great curiosity and the impulse to want to test myself - a kind of DIY challenge on a large scale. I like working in start-ups: fast, focused and self-determined.

What has made you particularly successful in your job life?
Feedback from other people is always great to get ahead. Very valuable was "negative"? Feedback, that is often particularly constructive feedback!

Was there a phase in your (job) life when you made a change of direction?
Even some! Here I am probably more the exception than the rule in the start-up scene, because with me there were relatively many changes of direction, which did not always have to do with start-ups: From the manager in the non-profit organization on the yoga teacher to the founder. If you want to read more, you can do that here.

Which impulses were particularly important to you?
I love talking to others and sorting my thoughts automatically. When I pronounce and articulate my arguments, I quickly feel what I really want. If you can and want to afford it, I also find professional coaching really valuable.

Were there phases of doubt or setbacks? What helped you a lot in those moments?
There were many of them, but that too is part of the reason. The important thing is not to stare at things. Sometimes, certain actions or projects do not work - and sometimes, given the not-too-big effect, it's good not to put too much into it. To breathe. Give time. Change perspective. Think again.

What was the most encouraging sentence in your (job) life and why would you like to share it? // Is there a motto of yours?
Do not work in the company, but in the company.
I think we should learn to think more critically and not automatically do what we have always done. to have. Especially after a few years of foundation, you should always focus again and let go of the old, if it does not work.

What awaits visitors to the ChroniquesDuVasteMonde Academy Job Symposium in their Speed Talk?
An open exchange and a relaxed atmosphere with many learnings!
