Jauch's candidates did not know what a rescue route is like - do you know?

What was going on?

In the RTL show "5 against Jauch" candidates have finally failed on a question. A simple question that every driver's license owner should be able to answer: "How should the emergency ambulance and ambulance emergency lane be formed in a traffic jam on a three-lane highway?"

And the candidates did not know it?

No, although actually every motorist would have to be able to answer that without thinking. Not so, however, the show's contenders: they were having a hard time, eventually logging in the wrong answer. One candidate wanted to give the right answer, but was overruled by the others.

This is of course annoying

Yes, but that's not the real problem. Candidates are far from the only ones who are having such a hard time with this very important issue. Again and again it comes namely in the formation of emergency lanes to problems that can cost by the loss of time in an emergency, human lives.

Just for safety: What is the officially correct regulation of the emergency lane?

There has actually been a change in recent years. Since 2017, according to the Road Traffic Act, the following rule applies: "As soon as vehicles are moving on freeways at walking pace or at a standstill, they must form a free lane for the passage of police and auxiliary vehicles between the leftmost and right next to the right lane." Actually quite simple, right? And: lately the emergency lane has to be formed even with heavy traffic (and not, as before, only at complete standstill).

Am I actually punishable if I do not do that?

Yes, anyone who violates the rule collects a fine. This is to get over with currently 20 euros - worse is (hopefully!) The realization of having blocked a potentially life-saving rescue mission by their own inactivity.
