Is happiness in our genes? About administrator and designer

BARBARA: Why is Barbara Schöneberger so happy? She somehow always felt in a good mood.

Martin Widemann: Presumably, Barbara Schöneberger has a so-called designer mentality. According to Julius Kuhl, people can be roughly differentiated into administrators and designers. Designers learn early in life that it can be worth taking risks, actively influencing one's own life and facing new things. To accept and use unpleasant feelings in order to learn more about oneself and one's own needs. Administrators, on the other hand, have learned early on or learned that life can be unjust, that one experiences loss when one is not careful and learned that one must always expect life to take something away from one again. They are controlled by this fear and therefore avoid new experiences. Thus they further reduce their horizon of experience and stick to what they still have. As a designer, I learn early to deal constructively with crises and losses, emerge from it stronger and remain open and curious for new things. This offers me every day the opportunity to make new and perhaps happy experiences. Stewards are skeptical about each new day and are happy if you have not lost anything at the end of the day.

Can you force happiness?

You can not force happiness. An open attitude towards the new and the active shaping of one's own life, however, can increase the probability of being happy. In addition, it can often be observed that people who are more often happy also have the ability to accept the less beautiful things in life, such as losses or painful experiences, with acceptance. If I accept pain as an inevitable part of life, the likelihood of my being more aware and enjoying the happy moments also increases.

Is luck hereditary? Is it because of our genes?

As far as I know, the blessing has not yet been found. However, many studies on mental phenomena and diseases have shown that there is often an interaction between predisposition and learning experiences. Meaning, if my parents were often happy, I will probably have the predisposition to the related skills. However, I will often have watched my parents and learned by their example which attitudes or behaviors contribute to being happier.

What role did luck play in the federal elections?

There are parties who argue in the election campaign rather with fear and horrors, ie the anti-luck, and so administrator mentalities address. But if I want to be happier in the future, I should not vote for such parties. Parties like the AfD may give you the feeling of apparent certainty but will not make you happy in the long term.
