Family summit in Berlin: nothing but soap bubbles

She has done it again: Kristina Schröder seems to be booked to produce soap bubbles. The widely announced family summit - 300 experts met yesterday at the invitation of the minister - ended almost without result. From now on, a report "Family and Work" should be created regularly - wow, what a measure! The exhausted and haggard parents will really be happy.

Especially since Schröder has just proven once again that she likes to interpret results very idiosyncratically. For example, a survey of 4,000 parents initiated by their ministry earlier this year found that 39 percent of mothers regretted taking parental leave because of their work-related disadvantages. This does not mean anything other than: work and family, that still does not work for nearly 40 percent of women. What an indictment. But despite this number Schröder knocks himself on the back, calls her family policy a "success" and decides: almost nothing.

Anyone who has hoped for a word of power from Chancellor Merkel, does not know their calculus. Yes, she took part in the summit - but she does not make family love politics a top priority. Because no later than August 1, it will become clear that the government has failed here. In that case, tens of thousands of parents will not receive a day-care center despite their valid legal claim. Merkel does not want to have anything to do with it, so she stays at a distance - to her youngest minister and family policy. An understandable and transparent maneuver. Let's see if mothers and fathers, who are allowed to make a cross in September in the general election so, the Chancellor to lose weight.
