Eurovision Song Contest: S! Sters do not get a single point from the audience

Somehow we had all wished for it, but it remained a Saturday without surprises: the FC Bayern Munich was again football champions and the German representatives at the Eurovision Song Contest once again experienced a debacle. So, everything as usual. The S! Sters and their song "Sister" ended up with 32 points behind on the third to last place - without a single point from the audience. Thus, all bookmakers, polls and social media trolls were right, the pop duo Laura Kästel (26) and Carlotta Truman (19) had not given the slightest chance in advance.

S! Sters? Who was that?

It could have been due to the inconspicuous appearance. Because more than that the S! Sters met all sounds, one did not remember. Apart from a golden shower of sparks, which sprayed down from the ceiling, no special (light) effects were otherwise created. The S! Sters could also have performed with the room light turned on, a difference would have hardly noticed. And the outfits did not stand out right now. But her strange exaggerated cheering after the end of the song was somehow out of the ordinary.

A Twitter user summed it up skillfully during the performance of Swedish singer John Lundvik (36): "Sweden are always sending cool guys out to full throttle and Almans are on the stage for us, putting their power into the song of victory after the song. " At the latest at this time one had forgotten the appearance of the German ESC representatives again.

The audience will never forget the gig, better the sado maso show, the Icelandic duo Hatari. Also interesting: The Australian singer Kate Miller-Heidke (37), mounted on a metal frame, hovered far above the heads of the audience. The taunt of the Twitter community was sure. As a user wrote about the outfit of the 37-year-olds: "If you appear at ESC at 11, but then have to re-direct your intergalactic empire." The performance of moderator Peter Urban (71), who made barely two sentences without mistakes, seemed at least as bizarre.

Madonna also sings live

Also interesting were the "Voting Bridging Acts". Especially ESC winner 2014 Conchita Wurst (30) was more than just a gap filler with his daring outfit of patent leather boots, full-body tights and feather boa. But all of them were just waiting for one artist: Madonna (60, "Madame X"), who entered the show with a flaming speech about the power of music before her performance and gave all candidates courage.

Then just before midnight the time had come: accompanied by a church choir, Madonna sang her hit song "Like a Prayer" on the 30th anniversary of the eponymous album - and that was audible live, because with many a part the voice of the 60-year-old shook completely enormous. Even with world stars, the ESC is no exception. That was in the case of the auto-tuned new single "Future", which was the "Queen of Pop" next to the best, anyway only trivial. The audience cheered nevertheless.

The juries are gracious - the audience tough

Then finally points were awarded. The jury voting was on the program. And at first it became clear that the acts acted as favorites in the run-up, would also make the victory among themselves. But then North Macedonia and its representative Tamara Todevska (33, "Proud") moved to first place for a long time - nobody had that on screen. Nevertheless Todevska had to leave Sweden at the end with only two points ahead of the pole position.

The S! Sters were first redeemed by the Irish jury: they gave the German ESC hope two points. There were eight points each from Belarus and Denmark, three from Australia, five from Lithuania and even better six points from Switzerland. Thus, Germany had already 32 points after the jury voting - after all, more than Germany had received in the three years before Michael Schulte (29).

The favorite makes the race

But in the audience voting, it was then quite bitter for the S! Sters: There were absolutely no points from the callers from across Europe - as the only nation. Even the audience could hardly believe it. There was a murmur through the hall in Tel Aviv. This was the third last, 24th place firmly. Behind it were only Belarus with 31 points and the United Kingdom with 16 points.

In the end, one of the favorites made the race: the brilliant winner of the evening was Duncan Laurence (25) from the Netherlands with his emotional song "Arcade".
