Albert Finney: British actor who died at the age of 82

Whether as Winston Churchill, Pope Paul II or Agatha Christie's master detective Hercule Poirot in "Murder on the Orient Express": The Brit Albert Finney in his more than 50-year-long career, a band unlike any other actor to the day. At age 82, Finney died as a result of a brief, serious illness, as reported on the US site Variety.

Finney began his career in the late 1950s, the last time he starred in "Bond" blockbuster "Skyfall" (2012) alongside Daniel Craig. He made his breakthrough in 1963 in the movie "Tom Jones" in the role of the title character, also in "Erin Brockovich", two of the "Bourne" movies or Tim Burton's "Big Fish" he played, just to name a few memorable parts. Finney has also been nominated for an Academy Award five times, but he has never received it.

That may not have annoyed him. Because although he worked as an actor and was inevitably in the limelight, he never wanted to be in the public eye. He is said to have once even rejected the title role in "Lawrence of Arabia", because he was "stardom fear ready". And he also beat the knighthood in 2000.

British actor Albert Finney dies at age 82 (May 2024).
