5 garbage mistakes that you have already guaranteed

If we Germans are already inglorious garbage world champions, we should all the more make sure that our waste is meaningfully recycled. Of course it is better to avoid garbage!

Here are 5 typical garbage mistakes that many of us make:

1) You always throw glass into the Altglascontainer

The Federal Environment Agency says: Under no circumstances may lead crystal glass and temperature-resistant glass (such as microwave or ovenware) be placed in the glass container. Also window and mirror glass, drinking glasses and bulbs, porcelain and ceramics must be disposed of separately.

2) You wash out your yogurt cups

The effort and the warm water you can save yourself, because the cups are washed in the recycling process anyway. ? Spoon clean? sufficient. But that also means: If a cup is still half full or even full, please empty it (also: With these 7 tips you never have to throw away food again).

3) You leave the lid on it

You hope that the recycling company is already taking care of the covers of your yoghurt cups and bottles? Unfortunately it is false. Lids are often made of energy-intensive aluminum and are not always recognized by the scanner of the system. That means they will not be recycled either. So please remove the lids before disposing of your bottles and cups. And then off in the yellow sack or in the recycling container.

4) You dispose of your beverage cartons in the waste paper

Coated deep-freeze packs, milk and juice cartons as well as sausage and meat paper belong in the yellow bin. Because these are composite materials that consist of several materials, which makes paper recycling difficult or impossible. Also wallpaper, tickets, posters or post-its are not in the waste paper.

5) You throw CDs, DVDs and Blu-Rays in the trash

These data carriers consist of 99 percent high-quality polycarbonate and contain valuable silver. Through mature recycling, the industry can use these raw materials again. So they belong in the recycling bin or - if they do not exist - in the yellow sack.
