40 varieties in the test: Almost every chocolate contains mineral oil!

It is well known that many products in this country are contaminated with mineral oils. According to Foodwatch, the saturated oils get into the food via packaging containing residues of printing inks.

For chocolate, it comes in contact with the potentially carcinogenic oils during production. Öko-Test has now targeted 40 different types of chocolate, in 39 products were mineral oils.

Only one chocolate strain not burdened

Of all the chocolate varieties tested, nothing was objectionable to just one variety: the Aldi South brand Choceur in the variety Feinherb Nuss. Twelve other varieties had only slightly higher mineral oil values. So the testers fell among other things Ritter Sport and Feodora positive.



In other discounter chocolates, partly high levels of mineral oils were found, even in organic products. The worst cut five different Moser Roth chocolates from Aldi Süd, one Yes! - bittersweet chocolate from Rewe, one J.D. Gross noble chocolate from Lidl, one Dark chocolate from Hachez and the Tip chocolate alpine milk from Real from.

As early as 2016, mineral oil residues were found in some chocolate advent calendars. In November, the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) also detected low levels of aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH). They are carcinogenic even in small amounts.



Despite the proven danger from mineral oil, there is no limit at national or European level.
