Wedding gowns by Kaviar Gauche: "White as jade, delicate as paper"

The Berlin fashion label Kaviar Gauche made its first international appearance ten years ago: At that time, the two designers Johanna Kühl (left) and Alexandra Fischer-Roehler staged a guerrilla fashion show in front of the Paris department store Colette - with great success. Her designs quickly became one of the favorite looks of the German film scene: Actresses like Heike Makatsch and Marie Bäumer love the modern, elegant evening dresses, which are always fitted with a pinch of casualness. It was exactly these red carpet looks that inspired Kaviar Gauche to create their own bridal couture line in 2009. Since then, bridal wear has been expanded to include new designs every year. Appointments can be arranged in the Berlin flagship store.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde: Your petite fleur collection looks very delicate and filigree. What inspired you? The collection finds its main inspiration in the delicate, delicate flowers of Chinese wedding porcelain. White as far-east jade and delicate as paper, the flowers had to be in order to meet the imperial standards. In addition to fragility, porcelain is also credited with astounding strength. We found that incredibly fascinating.

Which bride did you have in mind when designing your designs?

Actually the typical caviar gauche customer. A modern woman who wants to emphasize her personality and beauty while having the grace to effortlessly carry something special.

What is the key element of the bridal collection?

The traditionally made lace from France. And the metallic belt in gold is just a cool signature piece and wearable to any dress.

The materials of your collections are very high quality. Which fabrics do you use exactly and where are they made?

In addition to the lace traditionally made by a French family business in Caudry, materials such as georgette, silk organza and heavy atlas silk are used.

What's the design process for the Bridal Couture? And how does he differ from the other caviar gauche collections?

Basically, it's like any design process: you think of a pretty package for the purpose it needs to fulfill. In our bridal wear we can afford to use very special fabrics and finishes. That's fun, but it's a big challenge.

"Belle Michelle Dress": Glamor meets hippie

By now you have already designed some bridal collections. Does it even create a certain routine?

Of course, starting a collection is an important process. However, one can not speak of a routine in that sense, as new impressions, ideas and inspirations are always being gained. We are once again faced with a great challenge ahead of every collection.

In the last season of "Germany's Next Top Model" your bridal collection was shown. Has the demand for clothes subsequently risen?

We have already worked several times with the production team of "Germany's Next Top Model". Heidi Klum wished for wedding dresses for the last season and our collection was very well received. As luck would have it, our collection comprised exactly 16 dresses when there were 16 girls in the race. The Bridewalk in a church in Los Angeles was great. On the broadcasting day in March 2014, our server collapsed.

Is every dress made individually for the bride?

Yes, if the bride decides on a dress, the dresses will be redone. Except the customer is in a hurry, then she can take certain clothes with discount directly.

Make-up, hairstyle, veil: Which styling do you recommend brides to your collection?

That is very different. Since lucky tears can easily flow, she should rather not wear strong eye make-up and would rather support with a little blush the natural glow of the cheeks. Lip gloss and loosely tied hair are our clear favorite. A veil may look good, but it does not go with every dress. In general, the rule applies to us: "Less is more". We focus on the dress and the bride, but offer a lot and of course support every wish.

How does a bride know if a dress is right?

The most important thing is that the bride feels good. Nobody wants to feel disguised. The dress was designed to bring the bride's natural beauty to the foreground, highlight her fragility and bring out her own personal strength.
