Very easy to sew a round tablecloth!

Sewing round tablecloth: material

For the example size of 144 cm ø you need:

  • 160 cm x 150 cm medium-strength cotton fabric
  • 460 cm pre-folded cotton bias binding
  • matching sewing thread
  • tape measure
  • pins
  • fabric scissors
  • French chalk
  • Sewing machine (straight and zigzag stitch)
  • Iron

Tip: Since natural fibers shrink, always buy approx. 10% more length and prewash to the highest permissible temperature before processing.

Sewing round tablecloth: Instructions

  1. Lay the fabric twice, the selvedges lie on each other. At the material break (closed edge) measure 72 cm from one side (or the desired radius), mark the place with pins = circle center.
  2. Measure 72 cm from the marked spot in a semicircle a few times and mark with the pencil. Carefully cut along the markings. Beginners may be the material layers before cutting just below the markers with needles stuck together. Open = circle.
  3. Fold and damp the bias binding longitudinally in the middle. Center width Zigzag stitch, set the middle stitch length. Place the beginning of the bias binding around the edge of the circle so that the inside of the edge meets the center fold. Fix with needles. Sew back and forth the first 3-4 stitches. Slowly guide the bias binding around the edge of the fabric and sew on (beginner may fix the bias binding with needles). Important: Guide the fabric gently and do not pull, as the edges are stretchy due to the circular cut.
  4. Shortly before the end, cut the bias binding so that it reaches approx. 3 cm beyond the beginning. Turn the end of the tape 1 cm inwards. Put the bias binding around the edge of the fabric and sew the round to the end. Just before the end, leave the needle in the fabric, lift the presser foot, turn the cover 90 ° to the left. Fix the folded edge with a few straight stitches (sew back and forth).
  5. Lasts longer, but is finer: Lay the fabric with the left side up. Open the bias binding, place the right side on the fabric, exactly edge to edge. Stitch up in the fold line with straight stitch. Turn the workpiece, fold in the bias binding and wrap it around the edge of the fabric. From the right just quilt with straight stitch.
