US: Senators need to anti-sexism training

Sexual harassment is not only a widespread problem in Hollywood: a number of harassment cases have come to light in recent weeks, especially in political circles, as part of the #Metoo debate. Whether in the EU Parliament, the British Labor Party or the Republicans in the US? there are apparently black sheep everywhere who have not yet understood how to respectfully treat colleagues.

The latest allegation is directed against Republican Senator Roy Moore: he is accused by four women of seducing and sexually abusing her as a teenager.

Senate adopts anti-sexism measure

To finally counter the US Senate has now unanimously adopted a mandatory measure for Senate members: Participation in a "sexual Harassment training", so basically an anti-sexism seminar. In the future, all senators and their advisors will have to complete the course in order to work in the Senate.

"Everybody deserves to feel secure and at ease in their workplace, and the introduction of this new Senate rule is an important way to ensure that it's happening in those rooms," said Senator Amy Klobuchar in a statement.

The planned "sexual harassment training" is supposed to treat not only sexism but also discrimination based on race, religion, disability or other characteristics.
