"The Hierophant": What does the tarot card show?

First of all, the card "The Hierophant" has a strange name under which we can scarcely imagine anything today. "Hierophant" comes from the Greek and literally means "revealer of the holy secrets". This honorary title was carried in ancient times by the high priest of Demeter, a goddess of fertility worshiped in the Greek-Asia Minor region. The sanctuary of the mother goddess known as Ceres lay in Eleusis near Athens. Here secret mystery celebrations were held, in which the Hierophant was involved as the first priest.

Like today's pope, a hierophant was committed to a chaste life; and much like the Pope, he also appears on the map.

He wears a tiara, a pope's crown, and holds a shepherd's staff with three crossbeams in his left hand, reminiscent of the Orthodox cross. His red robe is decorated with simple crosses. With his right hand he blesses two men kneeling before him with tonsure, probably monks. The gray stone columns behind him create a dom or church-like ambience.

However, like his female counterpart, "The High Priestess" (Trump II), "The Hierophant" is not committed to any particular religion, but symbolizes spiritual leaders of all kinds. You can see in him a pope or bishop, as well as a guru, one Yogi master or the shaman of a nature religion. Crucial is his undisputed role as mediator between a higher spiritual world and the earthly being, his status as a representative of binding rules of faith.

But where holiness is, there is also hypocrisy. The box, protected by two crossed golden keys, at the feet of the priest may contain not only his spiritual treasure, but also the proceeds from the indulgence of the indulgences of the catholic church.

Certainly well-packaged mendacies, but also presumptuousness or intolerance are therefore quite important aspects of life, which you should trace if this card contacts you.

As a day ticket: If the tarot picture "The Hierophant" stands for yourself

You are in the midst of a spiritual quest for meaning, desire the assistance of higher powers, and would be very glad to have a good teacher to accompany you on this journey. It is quite possible that you will meet such a master now. But be careful that you do not go to the wrong guru! What matters is not what some highly decorated authorities promise you for your salvation, but that you want to go the path you now take, also from deepest inner conviction. Be your own teacher, your own Hierophant!

As the Love-Red: If the tarot card "The Hierophant" stands for your partner or your relationship

The simplest interpretation here is the most beautiful: A religious ceremony announces itself? This can only be your wedding? However, if you clearly recognize your partner when looking at the tarot card in the Hierophant, it looks a bit more problematic. If that's the case, the eye level between you is not quite right. He feels superior and probably makes you feel that way too. Do you need to kneel before him and admire him without giving you a similar appreciation?
