Shitstorm for Pampers: This education tip went in the pants

What happened?

That had been imagined differently at Pampers probably: The diaper manufacturer stands for days for an upbringing in the criticism, which he has published on his website. Many parents are furious with advice that borders on child abuse for them.

What exactly was advised?

Specifically, it was about the topic "punish children". On the side it was advised to give stubborn children a "break", so that they can dissipate again. It was recommended that one minute per year of child's life, when the child should not be talked to, to make him feel that his behavior had ended.

Oh, the "silent staircase" - did not you recommend the super nanny sooner?

Yes, exactly that! But "super-nanny" Katharina Saalfrank has meanwhile moved away from the "silent staircase" herself and considers her to be a pedagogic mistake. A few years ago, she told the Frankfurter Rundschau: "The child is not only severely restricted in his autonomy and development, but also offended in his personality." She found the "stairs" at work to be destructive and therefore discourages parents from doing so.

And what should be done instead, if the child is freaking out?

Educators agree: Better than control over punishment is the reward of good behavior. This is just more exhausting for parents, because you have to remember to praise your child for a "normal" situation. You just do not wake up so quickly "Great that you've dressed yourself alone so fast today", like "LISTEN TO YOUR SOCKS THROUGH THE LAMP AND TAKE YOURSELF AT ITSELF NOW!" Exactly from this positive confirmation Pampers advised by the way: "Do not reward good behavior," said on the diaper website, without any further explanation.

And there were parents angry?

Oh yeah! In the net parents ran storm against the diaper brand - until the company finally had to officially apologize for the bad tip:

We apologize for the irritating article #pampersauszeit, delete it immediately and learn from this mistake

Was not that too much of a good thing?

Maybe yes. But when it comes to parenting, parenting is not fun - certainly not when they sell outdated practices as a great tip.
