Serial junkies know her from the US series "Orange is the New Black". Here Laverne Cox plays the transsexual hairdresser Sophia Burset in a women's prison. Those who did not know Cox before will now get to know the actress as the first transgender model on the American "Time" magazine. The magazine raised Cox after protests for his "Time 100" on the title. Cox had not made it into the prestigious "Time 100" list of the world's most influential women, although she is according to "Out Magazine" one of the most important gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual in the US and successful as an actress.

The Time magazine has made Cox the face of the story "The Transgender Tipping Point: America's Next Civil Rights Frontier", "The Transgender Turning Point: America's Next Civil Rights Battle". For the transsexuals in the US, but also in other countries of the world, the cover and the associated story is a breakthrough in the fight for equal rights - and the consistent continuation of the civil rights movement. Homosexuals, bisexuals and transsexuals are still exposed to discrimination and persecution worldwide.

Cox works as an actress and producer, has studied fine arts and is committed to the rights of transsexuals. Born in the deep south of the USA in 2010, Cox became the star of the reality show "TRANSform ME" and became the first African-American trans woman to produce her own TV show in the USA. On her Facebook page, Cox proudly presents "her" cover and thanks her supporters: "Many thanks to all who send me love and support every day, it means to me and #girlslikeus (to:" girls like us ") So much to know all over the world that we are appreciated. " And in another post, "Let's change the world and make it safer for all people to be themselves." What is just another magazine cover image for most people is a big step towards equality for people like Laverne Cox.
