Bandmate Paul Webb (57) was already responding to the news. He was "very shocked and sad" about it, he wrote on Facebook. Although he had "not seen Hollis for many years," he went with him "one of the greats", "if not the greatest". Other stars mourned in the social media. Actor Elijah Wood (38) tweeted, "It's sad to hear that Mark Hollis has died." He also shared other posts in which Hollis' work is honored. Musician Chris Baio, 34, of the band Vampire Weekend wrote, "Mark Hollis has changed my life, thanks for everything."

Hollis founded Talk Talk together with bassist Paul Webb and drummer Lee Harris (56) in 1981 in London. In the following years they released a total of five studio albums and made a name for themselves with hits like "It's My Life" and "Such a Shame". The latter landed in Germany in second place of the single charts. In 1992, talk talk separated. Hollis released his first and only solo album six years later, it bears his name.
