Zumba Step: Hip circles and steps rise

In the water, with box movements or a barbell in your hands: Every few months, aerobics re-invents itself and comes up with another variant of classical exercises. Now the makers of the Zumba courses, which have been successful since 2001, have discovered knee lifts, leg curls and squats - and are now integrating them into Zumba Step. Means: To the short, hüftlastigen dance choreography come now also step sequences on the "step", which is placed in front of the feet. Sounds good, I try directly out. The nationwide first Zumba Step lesson instructs the Dortmund fitness trainer Jennifer Hildebrand on November 26, 2013 in Hamburg. The Zumba recipe for success - tempo and rhythm changes, easy-to-learn mini-step sequences, hip-swing-animating hits, different dance styles - is also the core of the hour here. A little fun with dancing helps. Although I do not have the training (I belong to the classic workout group), but with the step as a fixed point, I'm still in a good mood by the hour.

The courses are already available in the USA, and in Germany the first coaches are being trained in teaching the Zumba-Step combo. By March, the new fitness trend will be in gym-only studios, after which licensed coaches will be able to offer courses anywhere.

The official formula at Zumba Step is: 30 percent fitness, 40 percent dance and 30 percent step aerobics. All major muscle groups have to do it. Through the step thighs, legs and bottom are still required an extra portion. The whole body workout should build the deep muscles, train balance and coordination and burn even more calories. The latter I have not checked, but judging from my pronounced appetite could agree. And when cycling the next morning I feel my muscles pretty well.

Conclusion: 15 million people sweat week after week in more than 180 countries at Zumba - many of them just because they are not fans of conventional fitness formats. Zumba Step could work as a bridge between the dancers and hip stiffeners because there is something for both camps. And the studios do not have to buy new equipment. The chances of success are good. Even me as a dumbfounder will probably start a new attempt soon.
