More women in top jobs? The odds are rising again! The Federal Council today approved a legislative initiative on the women's quota, which stipulates that 40 percent of the supervisory board positions of German stock exchange companies will be filled by women in the future. If that is no reason to be happy! Now the Bundestag has to deal with the quota and there are quite a few MPs who have already voted in favor of the quota. A small triumph is the approval of the Federal Council in any case for Ursula von der Leyen. The Federal Minister for Labor (CDU) has been campaigning for the fixed rate for a long time. Family Minister Kristina Schröder (CDU) should not be pleased, however. She would rather introduce a flexiquote, with companies setting their own quota. The initiative for the legal quota for women was initiated by the SPD countries Hamburg and Brandenburg. Surprisingly, Saxony-Anhalt and the Saarland joined in, both countries with CDU-led major coalitions. So there were finally enough votes for the quota. And finally, there is movement into something that was already threatening to sink into the political debating mire!
