Miss Dr. Krumm, how does a lipase inhibitor work?
The fat we consume with food is chemically a triglyceride. This substance can be used by our body only after a cleavage in the gastrointestinal tract. Orlistat inhibits the enzyme lipase and thus a cleavage of triglycerides into free fatty acids and monoglycerides is no longer possible. The triglycerides can no longer be absorbed and are therefore excreted undigested with the stool. With Orlistat HEXAL® 60 mg, about 25% of dietary fats are no longer absorbed by the body. In addition, Orlistat has a positive effect on cholesterol, blood pressure and blood lipid levels.

How much weight can I lose in a week?
A weight loss is subject to strong individual fluctuations and depends on initial weight, diet and exercise. Clinical studies confirm that obese people can lose considerably more weight with orlistat than with a diet alone.

And why do I lose weight on a diet with Orlistat?
As I said, with Orlistat HEXAL® 60 mg, about 25% of dietary fat is not absorbed by the body. Since fat per gram has a higher energy content than other nutrients such as protein or carbohydrates, this is particularly effective. But Orlistat is just one part of the diet: Important pillars are exercise and conscious nutrition. In addition, when taking the active ingredient orlistat more attention is paid to a reduced-fat diet, so that even in the long term habits can change for the better.

Who is orlistat intended for?
Orlistat is used in overweight adults (BMI-28, body mass index = body weight in kg divided by m-squared size), in conjunction with a slightly hypocaloric, low-fat diet and exercise program tailored to individual health conditions.

Do I have to stick to a specific diet while losing weight with Orlistat?
No, the good thing about orlistat is that it can be combined with just about any diet and diet. Only important point is to pay attention to the fat content of each meal, this should not be about 15 g fat. Everyone should choose a diet that suits their preferences. Here, healthy food can be quite tasty and varied. Prefer a low-fat, varied mixed diet, that is, lots of vegetables, fruits and wholesome carbohydrates.

Does this diet fit into a hectic everyday life?
Yes, with Orlistat HEXAL® 60 mg is a normal, modern life still possible. It should be paid attention to low-fat, varied diet. Taking one capsule three times a day at the main meals is easy and convenient. For example, if you want to diet for a short-term fast, so do not eat three main meals, do not take the appropriate capsule intake. Meal replacement, complicated eating habits or strict calorie counting is not necessary.

Does the intake also have disadvantages or side effects?
The likelihood of food-related side effects (eg flatulence, increased stool urgency, greasy oily stools) may increase when Orlistat is taken with a high-fat meal.

  • The fat should be about 15 g per meal (with a daily calorie intake of 1,400 kcal).
  • Note the fat content of the meal, because too much fat can cause side effects, but some fat is useful for ingesting essential vitamins and for good taste.
  • If bloating or increased stool urgency occur at the beginning of the treatment, it may be that the fat content in the diet has not been reduced enough.

Are there studies showing the success of orlistat?
Yes, the effect of Orlistat is well documented in clinical trials. Orlistat was also the only drug included in the Patients Guideline on Obesity.

For each main meal 1 capsule of orlistat
