What is this Contouring?

I'll say it soon: I know what Contouring is. At least theoretically. Really, I have been following this trend for some time. I just do not understand it. For many months, more or less young people are posting photos and videos on Facebook, Instagram and Youtube. For this they paint in my view quite arbitrarily any colorful strokes in the face that make no sense in their pattern for me. At the end they do something that they call blind and suddenly they look good. How do they do that? And why? Of course, when I tried to contour my face, it did not work. Which did not surprise me, because if I try to make cool beachwaves with my curling iron, then I usually have such ugly spikes in my hair. To get it right, you need bronze powder, concealer, foundation, highlighter, powder brush, blender, I read on the internet. To justify my failed Contouringversuchs I can say that I do not have the right equipment and not the right training. According to various websites, the whole is an art, a secret and above all a technique. I actually thought Kim Kardashian had invented the whole thing, but I'm just a make-up banana. The whole has existed since the 16th century, already in the Elizabethan England smeared actor Chalk and soot in the face to emphasize their expression, Audrey Hepburn, Liz Taylor, Marilyn Monroe? they all used contouring. At that time, that meant only different. At least in Germany. At first, there was only facial contours, and countless bloggers and Youtubers showed how contouring made the slimmer, better, nicer version of their faces. Then you could see how buttocks were contoured, legs, just anything that you could paint, was suddenly contoured. However, my favorite video is that of Bella de Lune, in which she does something she calls herself "Clown Contouring", but she paints herself? As the name indicates ? like a clown. It's not an exaggeration to say that Bella has improved my relationship with the Contouring. It's really worth watching this video, it's amusing. The whole thing was at times so on my mind that I was relieved when Beyoncé's make-up artist in an interview said he was not a big fan. Otherwise, the trend seems to be over anyway: Kim Kardashian already announced that she was beyond the contours, she only contoured her nose. Otherwise, they are now on Nontouring.
