Welcoming refugees - are you taking part?

As a social media and community manager, Lutz knows which wide circles can pull a message in the social media - and in no time. He used this digital mouthpiece to set a signal by simple means. A sign against xenophobia.

"Hello, nice to see you here!" - With this picture Lutz started the action "1000 times Welcome".

On July 19, 2015, he launched the action "1000 times Welcome". He called people to photograph themselves with a welcome letter addressed to refugees and to upload the image to Tumblr. Lutz started with himself, within a few days more than 150 people did it. The associated Facebook page will soon have 1000 fans together.

We also like the action - because it shows that even a small gesture can have a big impact. That's why we join in. Are you there too?

3 questions to the mastermind behind "1000 times welcome"

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde.com: You write to Tumblr that you want to provide a platform for the "silent minority" with the "1000 Times Welcome" action. When was the moment when you said "enough is enough?"?

Lutz: This was really a contribution from today +, in which a woman said: "I'm in the dumb minority, those you hear scold louder." So I immediately set up a secret Facebook group with some friends. They are very active and well known in social media. We thought about some projects. # 1000x Welcome is the first, the fastest idea that has been implemented.

You also share the pictures in other social networks. Especially on Facebook calls against xenophobia often provoke ugly comments.

That's true. Unfortunately, you can also see that at Til Schweiger. However, we do not show anyone that we do not hate with hatred, but just say, "Dear Refugees, there are many people here who welcome you."

What do you hope to achieve with it?

My colleague Anett and I hope that this will provide a new food for thought for the welcome culture in Germany. The more people welcome refugees, the better it is for us. We want to show that here in our country it is not part of the agenda to show xenophobia, but that here refugees find supporters.
