A whole day for waffles

So eating as many waffles as you want all day sounds pretty good, as we find. That's why we are happy to pick up on a Swedish tradition: on March 25, we celebrate the Waffeltag. That the Swedes devote one day to the waffles may well be due to their indistinct pronunciation. Because on March 25, the Christian holiday of the Annunciation is celebrated, in Swedish "Vårfrudagen" - and that sounds something like "Våffeldagen".



However, this misunderstanding is pretty damaging to the Swedes: they celebrate their "Våffeldagen" wherever the pastries are - in the café, in the restaurant and at home. Preparation:

  1. Beat the butter, sugar and salt with the whisk of the hand mixer until creamy.
  2. Add eggs, lemon zest, flour, cornflour and baking powder and mix everything to a smooth dough.
  3. Grease the waffle iron and then bake waffles in portions.

Even better than waffles: a whole waffle cake with cream and favorite jam! Rike Dittloff shows the recipe step by step in the video and also reveals the recipe for their favorite waffles - with lots of tips.

Ingredients:

  • 125 grams of soft butter
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 250 grams of flour
  • 2.5 level teaspoons of baking powder
  • 200 milliliters of milk
  • 1 shot of mineral water with carbonic acid
  • some vegetable oil for greasing

Preparation:

  1. Beat the soft butter with sugar until frothy.
  2. Gradually stir in eggs.
  3. Mix the flour and baking powder and stir the mixture alternately with the milk in the egg butter mass.
  4. Add a little mineral water to make the dough particularly fluffy.
  5. Preheat the waffle iron while leaving the batter for 15 minutes.
  6. Grease waffle iron with a little oil.
  7. Add two to three tablespoons of batter to the waffle iron and bake the waffle
  8. Allow the finished waffle to cool on a grill.

Waffle cake - the waffle room with jam and cream

A waffle cake is a really good idea when a visit announces and quickly a delicious dessert. The waffles are made quickly and with a few more ingredients, such as cream and jam, they can be turned into an impressive cake. With such a work of art you will certainly inspire your guests!



Ingredients:

  • 1 glass of jam
  • 1 cup of whipped cream
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Preparation:

  1. Heat the jam with a dash of cream in a saucepan.
  2. Whip the remaining cream with the packet of vanilla sugar.
  3. Layer the waffles and whip the whipped cream and jam on each waffle.
  4. Dust the finished waffle cake with powdered sugar.

Ready in 35 minutes!

Tips for waffles

Whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, hot cherries or applesauce are simply delicious with the waffles - here we can taste ourselves through innumerable possibilities. And in the unlikely event that waffles are left over, they even freeze.

Important: The waffle iron must be neatpreheatedand with tasteless vegetable oil (eg sunflower oil or rapeseed oil)greased otherwise the dough sticks quickly.
The basic recipe can also be varied well: AtButtermilk waffles Instead of milk or rare water, simply add buttermilk as a liquid component.
