Toothpaste: Cheaper is better!

A visit to a dentist is always unpleasant, often painful and expensive. After all, broken teeth do not grow. Better, we take good care of our oral hygiene, so we save a lot of stress and annoyance.

The magazine Öko-Test has now shown how we can save on dental care. The latest research on toothpaste has shown that the cheapest products are the best.

Öko-Test has examined 38 toothpastes in the laboratory, including seven natural cosmetic products. The price differences are large: they cost between 36 cents and 6.95 euros per 100 milliliters. 13 toothpastes got the verdict? Insufficient? or? deficient ?, 19 were with? very good? rated.

The test criteria

Devaluation led in many cases to missing fluoride. Above all, natural cosmetic products do without it and rely instead on the sweetener xylitol, which is also said to prevent tooth decay. This is not proven, according to eco-test. The expensive? Dr. Wolff's Biorepair Toothpaste? relies on artificial enamel, which should close small dental defects. According to the eco-test, there are also no studies showing the effectiveness. In addition, the toothpaste contains propylparaben, a surfactant that is suspected of having a hormonal effect. Twelve other toothpastes use foaming sodium lauryl sulfate, which can irritate the mucous membranes according to eco-test.

These toothpastes have failed

Some of the most expensive toothpastes have failed: about Ajona Stomaticum Medical Toothpaste Concentrate for 5.96 euros per 100 milliliters: It lacks the important fluoride. The same applies to Dr. Wolff? S Biorepair toothpaste for 6,07 Euro per 100 milliliter and for the calendula toothpaste from Weleda for 5,67 Euro per 100 milliliter.

But even cheap products performed poorly: For example, signal caries protection or Odol med 3 Original - in these toothpaste classics stuck halogen organic compounds that are suspected of causing cancer and allergies.
